Human liver microsomes assay for understanding Drug metabolism
Visual representation of the human liver microsomes assay in drug candidate screening and unveiling the metabolism of the test compounds. Microsomes are subcellular fractions procured from the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells by the process of differential centrifugation. They primarily consist of Phase I reaction enzymes (CYP450 isoforms, FMOs) and certain Phase II reaction enzymes (UGTs). The incubation of the test compound with microsomes allows determination of the rate of parent compound disappearance and intrinsic clearance efficiency.
